After our last seminar I got to thinking about my own past experiences with me teachers and how they taught. I asked myself have they ever done anything that would get them into trouble for saying something or giving us material that was inappropriate. And I could only think of one time that my teacher ever got in trouble in regards to his teaching. In the ninth grade my English teacher gave us a book to read based on the TV show we were watching, one of my friends parents saw the book and thought it was too adult for kids who are only 14. So it was taken off the book list end of story.
I went to a really small school and as a result all the students were friends with the teachers. Because we were friends the class environment was a lot different then some of these schools we have been taking about, the teachers we would share life experiences and there were several times where we knew the teachers point of view. And as far as I can remember there was never any problems with the curriculum.

Up until the high school I also went to a really small school where we had real relationships with teachers. In that environment I think it is perfectly acceptable but I can see how a teachers opinion may not be acceptable in a larger environment or in one where more serious issues are discussed. I think it is an interesting aspect of teaching that every teacher needs to figure out for themselves and their specific situation.
